Soundview Medical Associates Join CTHealthLink

CTHealthLink, in partnership with the Connecticut State Medical Society (CSMS), is pleased to announce Soundview Medical Associates (SMA) has joined the physician-led, statewide interoperable health information exchange (HIE). For nearly two decades, Soundview has proudly served 70,000 patients from three locations in Connecticut.

"We are excited to join CTHealthLink," said Frank Sammarco, MD, president and managing partner, SMA. "As a physician, CTHealthLink will help me provide better quality patient care. I can access my patients’ medical information when I need it, wherever I am. Better communication and care coordination between my office and hospitals, labs, pharmacies, and referring physicians across the state is very important for my patients and SMA."

Dr. Sammarco added, "Connecticut physicians have been waiting a long time to have a functioning interoperable system. We believe the electronic exchange of medical information contributes to better outcomes by giving physicians the right information at the right time. We want every patient who comes through our door to receive safe, timely, accurate and effective treatment and procedures."

"Physicians are undergoing a major transformation in how they are expected to deliver care," explained Eileen Smith, executive director, SMA. "At Soundview, we are forward-thinking physicians. CTHealthLink is an important tool to help us identify and treat at-risk patients, proactively engage patients sooner, understand the performance of health interventions on health outcomes and reduce costs, in particular cutting down on duplicate testing. We are committed to providing our patients with the utmost in safe, high quality patient care."

Participation in the HIE can improve care coordination by allowing connected physicians, hospitals and other providers to share patient health information, including information from all providers and facilities from whom a patient has received care. Physicians can proactively manage their patients' care in ways that have never been possible before.

Jeffrey Gordon, MD, chair of the CTHealthLink Advisory Committee said, "We are thrilled to have Soundview Medical Associates join CTHealthLink. Soundview and its physician team, are a healthcare leader in Fairfield County. They are a valuable addition in our effort to enhance care delivery and build bridges through increased connectivity across the state."
